I entered the Air Force in 1969 after I graduated from
Ball State. I spent the first three months in officer training in San
Antonio, Texas. After completion of O.T.S. (Officer Training School), I
spent the next nine
months in pilot training in Del Rio, Texas. I then
transferred to Chanute Air Force Base near Champaign, Ill. where I spent
a year in officer Maintenance School which prepared you in certain areas
of aircraft maintenance. I was then station at Norton Air Force base in
San Bernardino, California as the officer in charge of the Propulsion
Branch. Later, I was selected with four others to represent the base
commander during his absence as the Flight Line Commander. In 1972 the
war was coming to an end, so I took an early out back to civilian life.

- Paul Gaylord From Paul's sister, Linnea C. - "I really don't have much regarding rank (I know he was a staff Sergeant at one time but don't know if that was his final rank. He stayed several years at Kessler AFB in Mississippi where he had skill specialties in both electronics and civil engineering. He taught in the electronics' school there and later helped design and engineer runways and similar. He served in Naples, Italy in security communication-electronics (not sure if that is the actual term but it described his job well) which I think was part of the SAC (Strategic Air Command) activity. His years of service was from 1968-1975.
